Made his recital debut in 1936. He was nine years old. At the age of 10, he made orchestral debut with the Chicago Symphony under Frederick Stock.

His playing career lasted 77 years. In 2009, Mr. Rosand shattered Nathan Milstein's record of having the "longest playing career in history" with his performance of Bruch's Scottish Fantasy with the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra. Milstein's playing career spanned 72 years.
